Simon collects a second hand chainsaw locally and takes a look at how to clean, sharpen, and prepare for milling the old Ash tree felled last year.
He aims to get some timber frame beams and scaffold boards out of the tree. Then he can pop the boards on the scaffolding tower when he’s ready to strip and repair the barn roof.
The builder is due to arrive in July to sure up the top of the barn wall in preparation for the new timbers and roof repairs.
The plan is to get the barn dry by fitting a new section of roof then strip the interior and remove rotten floor.
Once dry and the beams are secure we can begin replacing the rest of the roof where the tiles are very old and disintegrating but not quite worn through just yet.
the 266 was the best saw around in it’s day, it dominated the contractor cutting market in the UK for about 15yrs. You’ve got a gem there, it will out-live you! That looks like the original guide bar, so it’s done little work. Keep it sweet with Husqvarna or Stihl 2-stroke oil. And you can tune it a tiny bit on the lean side, also it will benefit from a new spark plug 🙂 Good luck!

It is indeed an absolute beauty and it’s been working hard in the woodland without missing a beat. We’ll be uploading out latest vlog on YouTube this month. The woodland is taking shape. Dead wood removed and hoping to plant some new trees this spring.
