I love a dip in the lake in all seasons. I’ve shared a few ‘glorious lakes’ locations recommended for swimming here in Creuse. Every lake has something to offer from tranquility to full-on water sports. Take your pick and have a fantastic summer.
For most people, the hot weather is when a lake seems most inviting however the algae bloom is not an ideal dipping companion and can make you or your furry dog swimming friends feel quite poorly. Best to be avoided.
The most tranquil seasons for swimming are Autumn, Winter, and Spring. I can’t stand the chill during the winter months so I put on a thick wetsuit with an insulated vest. Gloves, a hat, and boots are optional depending on how freezing it is or if there is a breeze. The windchill on exiting the water is for me the worst part. Swimming in the lake is always refreshing.
My ever growing list of Glorious Lakes to visit:
The lakes are part of our community and lots of events take place in these beautiful Creuse settings. I love evenings by the lake for food, art, music, and the atmosphere. We have visited Etang de la Naute (Champagnat) and Lac Ramade (Giat) for events.
For swimming Lac De La Lavaud Gelade. (Saint-Marc-à-Loubaud) A huge tranquil lake with wildlife to view very peaceful in the winter months and lovely for swimming in the open air
Places to explore on my list are Etang de la valette (Saint-Maixant)
Cascades at St Priest des Champs – just a short drive from our house!
Lac d’Aydat Puy De Dome – great for walking could get very busy in the summer lovely for families and picnics More info on trip advisor You can also view more information on Lac Chauvet Picherande on trip advisor.
Lac Chauvet Picherande – Lovely scenery and walking with several restaurants within five miles could be a great day out.
There are many more places to visit on my glorious lakes list and I’ll add them to our adventures category but while we’re on a water theme Cascades d’Entraigues (Egliseneuve-d’Entraigues) This cascade has a short 40-minute walk which has good access nice and easy for all the family together
If your family are keen on watersports i.e. water skiing and wakeboarding then you could check out Lac des Fades Besserve, (Les Ancizes-Comps) and several sites with cables, kicker slides at Rouffiac Cable Park, (24270 Angoisse) and the Natural Wake Park (03500 Paray-sous-Briailles)
